“All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?” Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth.”-Matthew 19:20-22 I love the New Testament. It is such an amazing example of people leaving everything to follow Christ. All throughout the New Testament over and over again you hear Christ telling people to “Follow me.” It isn’t a suggestion. It is a command. The story above is so powerful. It must be important because it is even repeated in Mark 10:20-22. The thing that speaks to my heart the most here is how Christ viewed the poor. He wanted the young, rich man to give all that he had to the poor because that was the only way he could ever truly please God. The problem was that the rich man was willing to do everything else except give up his possessions. If you look all through the Bible, Christ holds the poor in great esteem and it is very clear that the “least of these” in the world’s eyes are those that are closest to Christ’s heart. Ever since going to Africa, Christ has broken my heart for those that the world views as the least. Those that are closest to Christ’s heart should be those that are closest to our hearts. I am praising the Lord because He has provided me with the opportunity to go and serve the people of Matamoros, Mexico. I will be there from November 13-20. I am very excited to get to once again serve on the foreign mission field and to show Christ’s love to those who do not yet know Him. I am looking forward to how the Lord is going to break me for this culture that is new to me. I will be spending my time with the First Year Missionaries that are serving there for 9 months. I met some of them at training camp this past September, and I am eager to see all that God is doing in and through them in Mexico. In my next blog I will give you some information on Matamoros so you will know a little more about the place where I will be serving and how to pray for this area. I am so thankful for God’s provision and for allowing me to serve those that He loves. God Bless! For His Glory, Caroline 🙂 Ps. 56:3
